About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a flop, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation with two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make Toto a household name across the globe.
After a break of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It's a change from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album The group loses its manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a massive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
Music

Toto was the first album released by the band in 1978. It was a huge success that brought the band to international fame. Since then, the band has released 14 albums that are also hits.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first and, to this day only, film score for the film Dune. It was a huge project that required the entire band to be involved. Kingdom of Desire was another successful album. After a world tour, Bobby Kimball quit the band. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen of Le Roux. The band continued to release their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album featured a few songs that were hits, like "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation Toto was released, the band went on a absence. This gave every member of the band the opportunity to explore their individual projects. In 1996, the band was reunited for a tour and album. This was the first time the original members took to the stage together for over a decade.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that the original Toto members Toto were on stage together. The band broke up again following this. Toto returned for the benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in over 31 years that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
